Session Information

Tariq (46)

Newborns are my favourite subjects to photograph. I feel extremely honoured to have the opportunity to capture a tiny little person and document their true newness. Your newborn session will be a special milestone in your baby’s life. I want to help you tell the story of your new baby.which is truly rewarding for me. I enjoy capturing all the tiny features on their tiny bodies, from their toes to their squishy lips and delicate eyelashes, together with the sleepy curled-up posed positions. I also aim to capture the relationships and beautiful connections between your baby and family.

Newborn sessions are best scheduled when newborn babies are typically 6-14 days old. This is when they are most sleepy, still so tiny and can easily curl into posed positions; which will reflect their pure newness. This is also the time when baby acne and flaky skin in most cases is yet to appear.

Newborn sessions take approximately 2-3 hours. This allows time for feeding, changing nappies, cuddles and settling. Newborn sessions are never rushed and are based on a calm and relaxed environment. Newborns are usually photographed nude, so no need to organize outfits for the session; I will be prepared with a varied selection of soft blankets, beautiful wraps, props, handmade newborn hats and pretty handmade headbands.

It’s highly recommended that you tentatively book in your newborn session while you are currently pregnant; I will pencil in your due date on my calendar and will confirm your session date and time after your baby is born.

If your baby arrives early or late, I can certainly reschedule your session, it’s important that you contact me once your baby is born via email or phone, so we can reschedule the exact date and time of your rescheduled session.

My residential home studio is where the majority of my newborn sessions take place, however I can offer on-location sessions (eg. your home), for an extra cost. Whichever option is best suited to you, you will have the time to relax, put your feet up, have a cuppa and enjoy catching up on the latest magazines in the comfort of a relaxed and calm environment.

If you are considering having your baby boy circumcised, we will need to make  sure we allow him at least 5 days of healing time before his session. It’s always best to schedule the procedure after the photo session if at all possible. It is important to let me know if we will be photographing older siblings, as well as mommy and daddy shots. These will take  place at the beginning of the session so that we may have the remaining time focusing on the baby alone.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You should expect to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time to allow for feedings.  The studio is kept at 25 degrees in order to keep the baby warm and comfortable.  Newborns can lose their body temperature quickly, especially when unclothed, so we need to assure they are kept warm at all times.  You may want to dress in layers so that you are comfortable as well.

Babies pee and poop on everything so you don’t need to worry.  I have plenty of wipes and pads on hand and everything is washed after each session. There will be a white noise machine running to help soothe the baby.  Feel free to sit back, relax, read a book, or even take this opportunity to take a nap yourself!

No outside cameras, videos, or cell phone cameras are allowed at the studio or any location session.

WHAT TO BRING

Whether you are nursing or bottle feeding, having extra feeds is required.  Some babies tend to eat more during the session due to the warmer temperature so it is best to be prepared! Feel free to bring food for yourself as well or any other children.

Clothing- Generally I will be photographing your baby unclothed. Part of the experience in capturing a newborn is seeing the squishy little toes and cute tiny bums. Please bring them dressed in a “onsie” that opens at the front. No singlet. Its easier to get them out of if they are asleep when they get here.

Dummy- Even if you are not thinking you will want to use a dummy, I encourage you to bring one to your session. The short amount of time we will be using one should forming behaviours for your baby.  My goal is to help keep the baby happy and calm during our session.

Please call me on 0428359624 if you have any further questions or would like to book a session.
